Functional brain mapping
Functional neuroimaging techniques are essential for understanding human mental and cerebral functions. Local variations of electric field induced by neuronal functioning or local variations of oxygen consumption and blood flow when neurons become active are used as indices for mapping brain activity. Informations gathered from different techniques appear to be complementary with each other, whether a high spatial or temporal accuracy is required. In the near future, data fusion methods should help combining these advantages. The Institute intends to develop methods for multimodal approach to brain mapping in collaboration with PET and fMRI centers in Lyon and Grenoble.
