PRINCIPAL RESEARCH THEMES

My research deals mainly with the processes of face recognition and recognition of facial emotion, as well as gender categorization. The studies conducted revolve around two major issues, which are approached from a multidisciplinary perspective:

-- Independence of the various processes involved in facial information processing: the goal is to determine to what extent the human capacity to independently extract different kinds of information from a face (identity, emotion, gender) calls upon attentional resources.

-- Face expertise and configural information processing: the goal is to determine the role of configural information in our "expert" ability to process faces.

For both of these themes, data obtained from adults are compared with data obtained from impaired populations (localized brain lesions, schizophrenic patients, William-Beuren Syndrome) or populations still acquiring the ability to process face information (infants, children).

This project is supported by an ACI "Young Researchers 2003" grant from the Ministry of Research.
